THESIS The main points of the hero’s journey by Joseph Campbell is the basis of most stories throughout history, Divergent and The Epic of Gilgamesh being prime examples. PURPOSE These stories follow the format of the hero’s journey because it shadows the steps that Campbell explained. â€Å"In his study of world hero myths Campbell discovered that they are all basically the same story – retold endlessly in infinite variations† (Vogler). Campbell’s idea of this journey that all heroes complete is present in the duration of most stories that have been told throughout history and in modern day works today. INTRODUCTION Throughout these stories the steps of the Hero’s Journey are found to move the story along. Beatrice and Gilgamesh were both called to fulfill their destiny becoming the heroes of their own stories, fighting for what they thought was right, and bringing their society into a position of security. Society today is using this method with or without trying making this route able to touch the author in a more personal way, †his archetypal development of characters and the exposition of a portion of his own personal Hero s Journey illustrated through the protagonist s Hero s Journey.†(Dingman). The author can bring his own our eyes into the story not realizing that they re lives are also journeys that they have yet to discover.
